Learn the home row keys (ASDF JKL;) which form the foundation of touch typing.
Place your fingers on the home row keys (A S D F - J K L ;) and feel for the small bumps on F and J.
Home Row Keys
The home row is your starting position. Your fingers should always return here after pressing any key. The F and J keys have small bumps to help you find them without looking.
Tips for Success
- Keep your fingers curved slightly, like holding a ball
- Rest your fingertips lightly on the keys - don't press down
- Your thumbs should hover over the space bar
- Feel for the bumps on F and J to center your hands
Finger Placement Guide
Each key is colored by the finger that should press it. The home row keys (F and J) have small bumps to help you find them without looking.
Focus keys: A, S, D, F, J, K, L, ;
Proper Typing Posture
Chair Height
Feet flat on floor, thighs parallel to ground
Arm Position
Elbows at 90° angle, close to your body
Wrist Position
Wrists straight, floating above the keyboard
Screen Distance
Arm's length away, top of screen at eye level
Avoid: Resting wrists on the desk, hunching shoulders, or looking at the keyboard while typing.

Left Hand Home Row
Place your left hand fingers on A, S, D, F. Type each letter as it appears.
Right Hand Home Row
Place your right hand fingers on J, K, L, ;. Type each letter as it appears.
Combined Home Row
Place both hands on the home row and type the following combinations.
